Gay Marriage

I hate seeing all these straight couples who have only been dating or a few years (and in most cases much much less) and on a whim, decided to get married, usually at a young age.
As a general rule, your marriage will not work out. I know there may be a few exceptions, but for most pf you, no. I don't mean to sound pessimistic or bitchy, but when so something so drastically life-altering at such a Young age, it's not gonna work. I can't completely blame you, though; our generation grew up idolizing girls like Ariel, who gave up everything for a man, and married him at sixteen, cuz she thought they were in love after she saw him ONCE and they NEVER talked. He thought he was in love because he found a girl who didn't say anything (dream on boys).
I've gone slightly off finger. My point is, we've grown up on movies of fast and young marriages, so subconsciously, that's what we think is right. And because these children are HETEROSEXUAL, they can marry whoever and whenever and for however long they want.
Now, what about those couples who have been together for YEARS but can't exercise the same right, simply because they have matching genitalia?
Recently, I heard of a gay couple who, after SIXTY FIVE YEARS together, were finally able to marry. Sixty-five years. Wow. And now, I see straight couples who have been together for so much fewer years (like, a year, sometimes less).

It just really frustrates and angers me that so many people are against gay marriage because 'it ruins the sanctity of marriage'. Well, first of all; religion is not supposed to have any impact on the law. I'm not naive, I know that America was founded on Christianity, and that there will always be found some degree of religion effecting law. I understand that, I just mean that there is SUPPOSED to be separation of church and state.

Moving on.

Second of all, if those two gay men I mentioned earlier are ruining the sanctity of marriage after having already shown that they can stay in a committed relationship for a billion years, then what is to be said about a straight couple my age, divorcing after just a few months?

It really is the biggest injustice in my opinion.

ANNOUNCMENT

It has been brought to my attention that there has been trouble with the commenting system. I'm pretty sure i've fixed it, so, ya know... comment. :D

It's a beautiful night, we're lookin for somethin dumb to do...

I'M OBSESSED WITH HONEY BOO BOO CHILD. Her family is just so ridiculous. Here's a link. Almost everything on that channel is fabulous.

I REEEEALLY like bruno mars. totes. That word is stupid. So is Cray, adorbes, offish, and any other stupid cutesy shortening of a word. Also, I hate YOLO. like, before that, did everyone think we were cats and had nine lives? Go jump in front of a truck. go head, YOLO. Idiots. Moving on.

I start school a week from today. That's one of my grandmas' birthday. The day before is my dad's birthday.  This saturday is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. This month's theme is Cartoon Characters. I'm going as Alice in Wonderland (shout out to TALLIE!!). I'll post a picture next time I post on here.

I'm running out of blog-worthy things to talk about. I feel like I repeat myself a lot. It's hard to talk about anything different when NO ONE SAYS ANYTHING. just sayin'. I'll just start googling random questions. Let's start now! Google wont load... Actually, a lot of things dont seem to want to load tonight. Stupid construction.

  • Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.
    • Okay, the book is City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, Book one of The Mortal Instruments. The line is: 'And his arm looked like an eggplant," Clary muttered to herself in exasperation.' OMG, that's hilarious. But it's a good book. Dont judge it from one weird out-of-context line.
  • Are you listening to music right now?
    • Yes. Right this moment, it's Fantasy by Ludacris. I dont suggest you look it up if you're made uncomfortable by extremely explicit lyrics. Haa, after that shuffle took me to Colbie Calait. I have varied taste in music.
  • Where were you on Valentine's day?
    • Home. I made homemade chinese food for Astrid, Brandon and me.
  • What did you want to be when you grew up?
    • A ballerina. Or an astronaut. Then I read Harry Potter and I wanted to be a witch. I wanted to be a vampire, then the whole Twilight craze started and I abandoned that dream.
  • Last one. I'm looking for a reeeeeeeally good one. Okay, I'll clear up the whole chicken and the egg thing (which came first).
    • The chicken clearly came first, because without the chicken, the egg wouldn't have been properly taken care of and would have never hatched. The chicken was intelligently designed by the martians. YOU'RE WELCOME.
I'm gonna go read now. GOODNIGHT!

Ideas

Every night, I lay in bed before I'm able to fall asleep, and I have brilliant ideas for blog topics. And then, the next day, I can never remember anything. I think I need to put a notepad somewhere near my bed so I can write ideas down when I have them. Because, really, they're always genius. But then, poof, gone. So then I come on here, and I open a blank page, and think that'll bring back some memory of something, but no. I just sit and stare at a blank page, until I get bored and close it. And that, my dears, is why I haven't blogged in almost a month.

I'm addicted to angry birds. Or, rather, I'm addicted to trying to beat my friends' scores. So, I guess that's a little different. I also play this game called My Shops on facebook. I rock that. I also play this real estate game where you buy a house and fix it up and then resell it. Because, I have a life. Haaaa.

I'm very critical.

I don't usually like Waffle House, but I had a chocolate chip waffle from there, and OH MY GOD YUM.

I wanna punch the doctor who performed my surgery right in his face. My scar looks terrible. Crooked, jagged and HUGE. My dad had the same surgery a few years ago, with a different surgeon, and his scar is only like an inch, and it's small and straight and neatly cut. I never thought I'd be jealous of a scar. I mean, fer rill.

I hate when channels play a set of shows, then think they can get away with playing the same set of episodes on a loop. BORING.

I went to a very ill-ventilated indoor flea market today. Because of that, paired with the 100+ degree weather we've been having, I sweated more today than I have ever. Just thought you should know.

I'm trying to make a relatively long post, to make up for a month-long dry spell.

My boyfriend bought a crossbow today. Who buys a crossbow? Then, he shot it in his house, luckily, it didn't go far enough through the box to hit the wall. His mom would NOT have been happy with us. Then he broke it, trying to set it up for me to shoot. Sooo, yeah, I didnt get to shoot the crossbow.

I got two pairs of CUTE shoes for twenty bucks. :D

I wanna learn to play an instrument. Probably the organ, since I've already taught myself some songs. But idk when that's gonna happen, if ever.

Adele's pregnant. That's gonna be adorable. :3

I don't like that in this age, kids' shows are mini soap operas.

I'm going to go to bed now.

And by that, I mean, stop typing this, play my game a little longer, take the dogs out, brush my teeth, put on pajamas, then lay down to read for ten minutes, which will turn into an hour. So, like last night, I may be up til like five.

GOODNIGHT!

Thought provoking post. :D

Is a day spent watching movies when you could’ve been working a day wasted or well spent?

If you spend the day alone in front of the tv, every single day, then yes, you are wasting time. If you spend the day with loved ones every now and then watching movies all day, no, I don't believe that is a waste of time. Even if you don't realize it, you're bonding with the ones you love. You may just be watching a movie, but really, how often are you really watching, and how often is the tv just background noise to conversations? So, although it's important to do things other than watch movies all day, it is also an important part of peoples' lives and families.

On another note, sorry for the short post, and also for taking so long to post at all. Tallie had surgery about a week and a half ago, and it's been a rough recovery. Spent a rocky week in the hospital, but she's doing a little better now. Ya know, in case you were wondering about my personal life.

Goodnight lovies!

The Headphone Dilemma

I would just like to preface this post by saying, Jessica, you did say I could write about anything...

Also, hi, I'm Amanda. This is my first guest post so I'm not really sure what guest post ettiquette is but I will try to keep my elbows off the table.

On the the actual post.

---

In the current generation, music is a big deal - from rocking out to some classic rock while driving down the highway to listening to your favorite band before you go to sleep, we are surrounded by music and we take it everywhere.

One of the best inventions of our time is the portable mp3 player - or the iPod if you're an apple maniac - but with the best comes the worst. And the absolute worst has got to be this:

Cheap headphones.

Why do headphones break so easily? I find myself buying new headphones at least every six months if not less depending on the brand.

Why do the headphones always go out on the side that I hear from better? As a person who has only partial hearing in one ear, this is incredibly frustrating!

And why do they make headphones that I can hear from across the room? The only good headphones are the ones that block out all outside noise - and keeps the noise from bothering other people!

And don't even get me started on the static!

The point is, headphones are the most frustrating product on the planet. If someone would just make some decent headphones. That would be lovely. /endrant

... Boy, where'd the time go? I should probably get out of here before Jessica gets back...

GUEST POST

I finally found someone to do a guest post! My seven year old sister, future author and illustrator of children's books, Astrid Crowley. Enjoy!

The Baby Turtles By Astrid Crowley

Once there were a couple turtles. They got married and they always loved to kiss. They would always hug too. One day, they had three babies. Their names were Ilae, Katy, and Marissa. When they were born, they were always crawling around and trying to find food, but their parents wouldn't let them, unless they stayed in their house. They were always eating bugs. They were always crawling around. They would not stop crawling around, they would just keep finding bugs everywhere.

They had little cute clothes. They always wanted big girl clothes, but they weren't big girls yet. Their mommy was smaller than their daddy. They were very afraid of piranhas. Piranhas were mean. One day, the little turtles went to find fish to eat, but a piranha almost ate them. It was scary to them. They fell in the water, but swam away just in time. They ran home and hid in their rooms. They would never stop being scared of piranhas. Piranhas always tried to eat them, but they could never catch the turtles because they were too fast.

It was their fist birthday. They had never had as much presents as they did on this day. They got so much presents that their rooms were filled, and they couldn't even go in! They realized they had so much toys that they wanted to donate some to poor baby turtles. The poor baby turtles were so happy that they became friends with Ilae, Katy, and Marissa. They baby turtles were very happy because they knew that many other turtles would have been too selfish to share their toys.

And they all lived happily every after.

Weird Maybe-true-but-i'm-not-gonna-research-them Facts.

  • The population of the Earth can be a source of many interesting statistics. In the year 8,000 B.C., there were only 5 million people on Earth. Four thousand years later, the population had only risen by 2 million people, to 7 million people. Nowadays, Earth's population rises by 2 million roughly every nine days.
  • Worldwide, around 265 people are born every minute and 115 people die, for a net increase in population of 150 people every minute.
  • The average American spends 18% of his or her income on transportation, and only 13% on food.
  • Around 40% of murders occur during arguments.
  • A 1947 study found that during the Second World War, only about 15 to 25 percent of the American infantry ever fired their rifles in combat.
  • One's lifetime risk of dying due to living with a smoker is 1 in 4,200. Getting struck by lightning over the course of a lifetime is more likely, with odds of 1 in 3,000.
  • Around 1,900,000,000 Christmas cards are given in the United States of America yearly, making it the largest card-sending occasion in the country. The second-largest is Valentine's Day, with approximately 192 million cards being given.
  • The story of Cinderella first appears in a Chinese book written in the 850s.
  • William Shakespeare's average annual income as a playwright was under £20, which works out to about £8 per play. However, he made about twice as much from writing plays as Ben Jonson, the only contemporary playwright who was better known at the time than Shakespeare.
  • Shakespeare used around 29,000 different words in his plays. About 6,000 words only appear once. About 10,000 words are not found in any surviving English literature prior to Shakespeare.
  • Edgar Allan Poe wrote a short story in 1838, "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket", in which three shipwreck survivors in an open boat kill and eat the fourth, a man named Richard Parker. In 1884, in the real world, three shipwreck survivors in an open boat killed and ate the fourth, whose name was Richard Parker.
  • It is estimated that over 7,500,000,000 copies of the Bible have been made.
  • Winnie-the-Pooh is based on a real bear. On August 24th, 1914, a Canadian soldier and veterinarian named Harry Colebourn, en route to a training camp in Valcartier, Quebec, purchased an orphaned black bear cub for $20 in White River, Ontario, which he named Winnipeg, or Winnie for short. When his unit was sent over to France during World War I, Colebourn loaned her to the London Zoo, intending to take her back to Canada after the war. However, Winnie's gentle disposition made her the zoo's top attraction, and on December 1, 1919, he donated her to the zoo. In the mid 1920's, writer A. A. Milne often took his young son, Christopher Robin, to the zoo, and Christopher named his teddy bear "Winnie-the-Pooh" after Winnie. A. A. Milne went on to write several best-selling children's books about Christopher Robin and Winnie-the-Pooh. (where did "Pooh" come from?)
  • Emily Dickinson wrote over 1,800 poems. Only seven were published in her lifetime, all without her consent.
  • Shakespeare makes Lear, an early Anglo-Saxon King, speak of not wanting spectacles. In relating Macbeth's death, in 1054, and King John's reign in 1200, he mentions cannons. In Julius Caesar, he makes the clock strike three. However, these three inventions were not invented until the fourteenth century. (this one gets me....)
  • In 1991, the Art Loss Register, a database of stolen works of art, was created. The database now contains over 300,000 works of art, including hundreds of pieces by Picasso.
  • Around one in three murder cases are never solved.
  • In 1877, during the height of violent labour unrest in the United States, three men were found guilty of the murder of a foreman of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company and sentenced to hang. Two of them went stoically to their deaths, but the third, Alexander Campbell, swore that he was innocent. As he was being dragged from his cell to the gallows, Campbell rubbed his left hand in dust from the floor and pressed his palm against the plaster wall, and shouted repeatedly, "This handprint will remain here for all time as proof of my innocence." Even after Campbell's death, the handprint remained. In 1931, Carbon County Sheriff Robert L. Bowman undertook a renovation of the cell, removing the section of plaster wall containing the handprint, replacing it with a new section of fresh plaster. However, the handprint still came back, and still exists today.
  • In 1865, William E. Brockway printed a counterfeit $100 bill so perfect that the Treasury Department's only recourse was to withdraw all authentic $100 bills from circulation.
  • In ancient Babylonia, if a poorly-built home collapsed on the owner, killing him, the architect was executed. If the owner's son was killed in the house collapse, the architect's son was put to death. If the homeowner's wife or daughter was killed, the architect was merely fined. (wow. just wow.)

Okay. I'm done. Feel free to not read any of these. no big deal. And, as always, I leave you all with an invitation to ask me advice, or give me subjects you would like me to address, ooooor even if you would like to do a guest post. :D

I'm going back to normal type. I only changed it so my lovely readers could easily see where my actual post started, in case you didnt want to read the stats. but you totally should. Cuz I've gone international. TALLIE! WHAT IF COCO WERE TO READ MY BLOG!!!

  • The Book Thief. Read it twice.
  • Le Petit Prince. read it en francais! psh, yeah!
  • East of Eden
  • Fever 1793. I read this one two or three times.
  • The Pretty Little Liars Series (BEFORE the tv series). I havent read them all.
  • Walk Two Moons. Twice.
  • Anything by Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss. read their work over and over and over.
  • I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
  • Shakespeare. Quotes more than full screenplays, but I've read a few.
  • Wicked was good, but veeery slow to read. I have two copies... Not sure how that happened...
  • The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
  •  Tallie bought me The Lord of The Flies and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer today. Cant wait to get on those. :D Also, I wanna read the hunger games. I had the opportunity a few years ago for a class, but I picked Kissing Doorknobs instead. Not a terrible book though. But I still should have picked the other.
  • let's see...
  • Little Bee by Chris Cleave, I think is Relatively unheard of. But very good.
  • Also, House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker

  • Nicholas Sparks books are lovely. (So sue me. Believe it or not, I am still female.)

next time, maybe I'll do movies! if i remember. In the meantime, leave books in the comments. ugh.

I broke my laptop. i'm borrowing my stepmom's (thanks, Tallie!) i spent six hours "cleaning" my room yesterday (i put cleaning in "" because it really doesn't look like I've done any cleaning. it looks worse than when i started. anyways, There was a blanket on the floor and apparently my laptop (in it's protective case) was underneath. i tripped over what i thought was just the blanket, or maybe something i'd left on the floor. nope. computer. and now there's a huge flippin crack across the screen. :( luckily, i have a warranty, not only through the company, but also through Walmart, so i'm not really worried about that. i just don't want to lose my stuff. not that i really have anything important on there. some music, almost all transferred to my Zune. a bunch of funny pictures. and i have this awesome back up storage device. that i was too lazy to use. ugh. i frustrate myself.

ugh. If I have any readers, make yourself known.

I'm thinking about doing a kind of advice blog. like, anyone could leave a question or problem in a comment, and I would help out in my next entry. Or maybe not. Idk.
BYE!!

"love means never having to say you're sorry"

First of all. I have no idea where this quote came from. I think a movie. I would look it up, but I have a rant to go on, and i dont want to take time away from that.

on we go.

There are a few ways this quote can be taken. one is total crap. the other is just unrealistic.
You could take it as meaning that no matter what one person does, no matter how bad, they dont need to apologize because you know they dont mean it. the second meaning could be that your true love is never going to do anything that requires an apology. the first is crap, and the second one is unrealistic. Yes, i just repeated my first sentence; it's called "reiteration". now quit changing the subject. Both of these meanings can be negated by the same statement; Everyone is going to make mistakes. everyone is going to do something that will hurt you. everyone is going to upset you. the fact is, no matter what, love or no, they should apologize when they are sorry, when they make these mistakes. because they will. hopefully they care enough to apologize.

that's it. I dont have anymore to say today. Goodnight.

Okay, Uhm... So, i looked it up, and apparently, it's from a book called "Love Story" and then the movie made from the book. But the thing is... I read this book maybe a month ago, and I dont remember seeing that line.... hmm... Who knew?!

Boredom

I'm looking up funny things on google. Enjoy.

1. I typed "When do I know t" and the results, in order were, "when do i know that I"m pregnant", "when do I know to break up with my boyfriend", "when do I know to move on", and "when do i know to harvest my weed".... google goes by themes, it seems.

2. I typed "why are these" results: "why are these strawberries doing on my" which, from previous research, I know is completed with the word 'nipples' and is, apparently, a book. now, back to the results. "why are these arguments susceptible to abuse", why are these people famous" and "why are these doritos so loud"... alrighty then.

I'm bored with that. let's see... I WANT A POTTERMORE ACCOUNT!!! but it's in stupid beta mode, and I cant get an accout yet. Dx frustrating. I've been really obsessing over harry potter lately. Okay, that's not entirely accurate. i havent been obsessing over the books/movies, I've been obsessing over picures and references TO harry potter. pretty much anything you find here is what I'm talking about. Go ahead. click it. It'll open in a new window. I promise. I dont get some of the ships. I mean, the obvious ones, Hinny, Romione, Nuna, yes. I could even see Drarry, Dromione, Fremione, and some of those ones, but Snarry, and Drapple, I just really dont get.... What's with Draco and an apple? like.... really...

Valentine's Day

I used to hate valentine's day. I felt it was too commercialized, and that there shouldn't be one day a year to do the things you should do everyday (of course, these were probably just excuses. i was probably just a bitter lonely deperessed teenager, just like everyone else my age-- but i digress). Until Brandon, I'd always been single on valentine's day (or pretty much single, anyway). The last valentine's day before B that i was "in a realationship" waaaas.... 200....7? I think. anyway, it'd been awhile. Today was my second Valentine's Day with Brandon, and I must say, it went pretty well. Since it landed on a weekday, and I have classes tomorrow and he has work, we went out Saturday instead of tonight, and just had dinner at home with my sister tonight. Saturday he took me to a realy nice Italian restaurant, then took me home, where we watched The first disc of the first season of The Big Bang Theory, which was his gift to me (yay nerd presents!), in an adorable white and pink owl gift bag. Today, I made a full dinner (which miraculously turned out well, considering how little i cook, especially meals this big), we ate with my sister, then we watched (and by "we watched" i mean "they watched and i slept through") the Corpse Bride. Now, Asian food and a Tim Burton Romance, may not be the traditional valentine's day evening, but then again, we've never been quite typical.
Anyways, the point of my story is that I really got into valentine's day this year. I made his present, I bought some other stuff, i spent five hours shopping for a new outfit for Saturday, and i went all out making my own Chinese food instead of just ordering in. What's changed? Is it just because I'm a happier person than my former  pseudo-emo teenage self? Am I happier because I'm with someone? Is it better because I still get butterflies when I see him? Who knows. But I like it. :)

This may seem like a pretty sappy post, but it's okay; it's a sappy holiday. I'm entitled. Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Remember; it's a day for love, not just romance. You don't have to be in relationship to have someone to celebrate with. Go out with your sister, your best friend, you dad, your neighbor. Hell, if all else fails, spend the day with your dogs. They love you too.
